The ‘mystery of life’ might be stated in terms –
Life is ‘End or Beginning’ / ‘Fallen or Risen’
So, the question becomes : is human life (as we experience it) an ‘end in itself’ or a ‘beginning in itself’? And, does this mean that human life (as lived in the world) is simply ‘fallen’ or ‘risen’?
Man’s perceived ‘great enlightenment’ – in all it’s accumulated ‘ignorance’ (ie ‘ignoring the truth’) – would be proud of ‘rationalising this paradoxical duality’ and ‘spending a lifetime trying to ‘tease out’ it’s contradictory implications.
Enter : Jesus the Christ – and it’s noteworthy – the first question posed to Him was : “Where do you live?” and His sublime answer was : “Come and see” (John 1:38). Yes, ‘happy are those who recognise they are LOST and realise they are FOUND’. Yes, again, we joyfully discover ‘WHERE WE ARE’ when our ‘horizontal mode of life’ (ie social) and our ‘vertical mode of life’ (ie spiritual) CROSS each and are reconciled.
Our Question : “Lord, what is man that you care for him, mortal man, that you keep him in mind; man who is merely a breath whose life fades like a passing shadow?” (Psalm 144:3-4).
Christ Answer : “I came that you may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
This ‘question’ and ‘answer’ touches the Bible’s revealed story of man’s ‘creation’ and ‘redemption’. The distinctiveness of man among God’s creatures consists in the fact that he is uniquely formed for communion with God. In man alone the Word became flesh, so that human beings may live, as Christ (the divine / human) lived. The CROSS reconnected man (in ‘horizontal’ mode) with God (in ‘vertical’ mode) – enabling the fulfillment of God’s creation of Human Beings (ie ‘Deification’) –
Christ is Risen : He is alive for Evermore
Those who ‘see’ the Light are within the Light, as those who ‘see’ God are within God (and participate in Trinity Life – the answer to the ‘Mystery of Life’).
